Your voices have been heard!  We just received a phone call from Ms. Elizabeth Kerpon in Representative Four Price's office. Rep. Price authored H.B. 11 with the proposed timelines slashes. Rep. Price's office has received many calls from educational diagnosticians. They "are taking away" the 20 days and keeping the 45 school days timeline for the FIIE.  Ms. Kerpon asked me to let the TEDA membership know that they have heard them loud and clear and no more phone calls are needed. When asked for confirmation in writing, Ms. Kerpon replied that the new language was pending. We told her that TEDA would share the summary of the phone call with our membership.

HB 11 Section 1.13

We confirmed the commitment to the existing 45 school day timeline and also inquired about the two additional items of concern:

1.       Proposed: 15 days reduced to 7 days for school to respond to a parent’s request for an FIIE

2.       Proposed: Test consent received at “least 10 (was 35) but less than 20 (was 45) school days before the last instructional day of the school year requires completed FIIE report to the parent

Ms. Kerpon said that she would check on items #1 and #2 and be back in touch with TEDA.

TEDA expressed our gratitude on behalf of diagnosticians and the children with disabilities who we serve.
